Description:

Date Unveiled: The memorial was officially opened on the 1st of December, 2001 by Alan Blackwood and Gary Giles the Memorial initiators and project co-directors.

Funded by : The City of Vincent , the Australian Council For Arts and local businesses

Location: The AIDS Memorial is located near Lee Hop's Cottage on the Stuart Street end of Robertson Park, North Perth, Western Australia.

Inscription:

IN LOVING MEMORY OF OUR FRIENDS AND RELATIVES WHO HAVE DIED FROM AIDS AT HOME, INTERSTATE AND OVERSEAS. WE SHALL NOT FORGET.

Background:  In April 1999  the City of Vincent announced that an AIDS memorial would be built in Robertson Park. The memorial would include a reflection pond and an area for contemplation and prayer. The City of Perth had previous rejected the idea.

Tidbits: On World AIDS Day 2011, guests were invited to light and place a candle of rememberance in the reflection pool . 30 Red Balloons were released to acknowledge 30 years of HIV/AIDS.

This is the first memorial in Perth built to honour those who have died from AIDS.
