Date Unveiled : The Migrants Memorial was unveiled on
January 13th, 2008 by right honourable The Lord Mayor of the City of Perth Ms Lisa Scaffidi.
Description of the Migrants Memorial: 8m high bronze
and stone monument. The stone for each of the columns came from both the Majella Range in the Abruzzo region
of Italy and from Donnybrook in WA.
Funded by : The Migrants Memorial was funded by the
Abruzzese Emigrant Association and Lottery West, with materials, services and equipment being donated by
prominent Abruzzese business people both in WA and in Abruzzo.
Cost : $500,000
Location : On the shores of Lake Vasto, Ozone
Reserve, corner of Plain Street and Riverside Drive, Perth, Western Australia. The lake was named after Perth's
sister city Vasto in Abruzzo, Southern Italy.
|In Memory of Migrants to Australia
This monument was erected to remember and honour all migrants who have
come to Australia from many parts of the world.
Their hardship and perserverence have contributed to the growth and
development of this nation of ours. A nation we can all be proud of.
The migrant monument will be here for generations to come. Helping foster
an appreciation and understanding in the meaning and courage of the mogrant.
