Description: The bronze monument to Pope John Paul II depicts the Pope embracing a young girl and boy. The sculpture is  loosely based on a photograph taken during the Pope's 1995 visit and arrival at the Thurgood Marshall International Airport .

Funded By : Friends of the Basilica of the Assumption Historic Trust

Location: The Pope John Paul Monument is in the Prayer Garden located on N Charles and Franklin Street, Baltimore, Maryland, USA.

Controversy: The gardens in which the statue of the Pope stands was created after they demolished a century old Rochambeau apartment building owned by the Archdiocese of baltimore. the city had fought to stop the building being demolished but lost their court case.
