Public Art In Cincinnati

Cincinnati is a city in Ohio often referred to as the Tri-State. Cincinnati was founded in 1788 by John Cleves Symmes and Colonel Robert Patterson. The surveyor at time John Filson (author of The Adventures of Colonel Daniel Boone) originally named the area "Losantiville" meaning "the city opposite the mouth of the Licking River".

In 1790, Arthur St. Clair changed the name of the settlement to "Cincinnati", in honor of the Society of the Cincinnati which was a organization founded in 1783 to preserve the ideals and fellowship of the American Revolutionary War officers. The society was named in honor of Roman dictator, Cincinnatus (520 BC – 430 BC) .
