Public Art in Mangalia
Mangalia is a coastal tourist city and a well known spa resort located in the southern part of the
Romanian Black Sea coast. Mangalia was originally a Greek colony called Callatis which become an important economic
hub during the Hellenistic period. Over the centuries, Callatis was occupied by the Roman and Byzantine
During the 1950s the city became the first Spa Center in Romania due to its thermal sulphurous springs. A
harbour and shipyard were also built, making it the second harbour, after Constanta Harbour, to be
situated along the Romanian coast.
