Public Art in Ethiopia
Ethiopia is a country located in Africa and is the most populous landlocked country in the world. It is also one of the oldest sites of human existence known to scientists and considered the home of early Homo sapiens. For most of its history, Ethiopia was a monarchy but that ended with Haile Selassie in 1974. Ethiopians use the Ethiopian calendar which is seven to eight years behind the Gregorian calendar.
Public Art in Ethiopia is sparse, which isn’t surprising considering the unrest they have endured throughout their history. One of the most recent statues to be erected was that of reggae singer Bob Marley in Addis Ababa. It has unfortunately been recently removed by the road authority for causing traffic jams.
