Public Art in Japan
Japan, “the land of the rising sun”, is a country in East Asia. Japan is an archipelago made up of 6,852 islands, with the four largest being Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu and Shikoku. It was during the 1980’s and 1990’s, when Japan’s economy was booming, that most of the country’s public art projects were commissioned.
Many of Japan’s statues and sculptures are erected in honour of Japan’s historical past. The statues, sculpture and monuments are listed below under the 8 regions of Japan. If you are looking for a specific piece of Public Art you can also use the search button.
