Less than a month after the beloved sculpture honouring C.Y.O’Connor was damaged,  a delighted Tony Jones watched from the North Coogee shoreline as it was carefully re-installed. The team liased with Mr Jones to make sure the Horse and Rider was placed in its original position. Also on hand to watch the sculpture return to sea was author Mike Lefroy,  the great grandson of C.Y. O’Connor.

C.Y.O’Connor sculpture

The head and torso, representing C.Y.O’Connor, had been severed in February. It was originally believed to be vandalism but witnesses say a catamaran may have sailed through it. The pieces were later located on the ocean floor by a member of the public. Fortunately, sculptor Tony Jones was able to use the recovered pieces to restore the sculpture without having to recast.
