Public Art in North Beach

North Beach is a northern coastal suburb of Perth, Western Australia. Following the establishment of the Swan River Colony in 1837 the area was leased by Samuel Richard Hamersley and his family. The North Beach area served as a popular resting point and watering hole for cattle drovers who were using the Coastal Stock Route between Dongara and Fremantle. Later during the gold boom of the 1890s, it wasn’t rare to see Afghan camel drivers and their camels frequenting the area as it also served as a quarantine area for new camels arriving in the colony.
