Public Art in Sorrento

Sorrento is a northern coastal suburb of Perth, in Western Australia. The area was originally known as Mooro by the Whadjuk Aboriginal people, but was named Sorrento in 1929. No one knows for sure but it is presumed it was named after Italy’s famous seaside town Sorrento, which is located south of Naples. The first European to settle in the area was Patrick Marmion, a master whaler, who operated a whaling station in  in 1849. There is a sculpture erected along the West Coast Drive where the Marmion Whaling Station once stood.
