Description: The sandstone carving of Sir James Martin, former Premier of New South Wales, and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of New South Wales, is one of 23 sandstone carved figures on the ledges of the Lands Department Building. The poor Chief Justice was depicted with creased clothes, wrinkled face, and veined hands. His unusually enlarged hands suggest he may have been destined for a higher niche.
